Nine Million Bicycles

The first morning in our new town of Billerbeck we took a short day trip to the nearby city of Münster.  When we got there we were greeted by a couple of college girls who divided us into smaller groups and then took us on a private tour to the top spots.

Church numero uno

Numero dos

In this picture you might notice there are three cages above the clock.  Apparently at one point they put three people in there to die and let the birds peck away until there was nothing left but bones.  YAY Christianity!

I could not leave Germany without having some kind of picture of the poet Goethe!

Cray cray rooftops

Our guide told us that there is a very long running crime television show that is filmed in Münster and the protagonist lives above this antique book shop.  They change the name of it whenever it is being filmed and a lot of the locals have gotten to be extras on it.  Watch out for CSI: Deutschland coming soon to CBS, I'm sure

She also told us that there are around 250,000 people living in the city and about 500,000 bicycles... so for you mathematically challenged readers that is two bikes for every person. "You know, just in case one breaks," was our guides reason.

Church numero tres! This one is nicknamed the "Over the Water" Church, not because water flows underneath it but because it is on the other side of the river from the main part of town.  The tower was also supposed to have an addition to the top of it but after three miserably failed attempts they decided to leave it as it is

The CASTLE!
